Camino Lebaniego

A journey between sea and mountains to one of the holy places of Christianity.

The Camino Lebaniego is a thousand-year-old pilgrimage route that runs through the heart of Cantabria, connecting the Atlantic coast with the Picos de Europa.

Their destination is the Monastery of Santo Toribio de Liébana, one of the four holy places of Christianity along with Rome, Jerusalem, and Santiago de Compostela. Legend has it that the Lignum Crucis, the largest known fragment of the cross of Christ, is kept there, making this journey not only physical but also spiritual, historical, and deeply symbolic.

Although less well-known than the Camino de Santiago, the Camino Lebaniego offers a unique experience thanks to its authenticity, natural beauty, and cultural richness. In just three stages, pilgrims travel through landscapes that combine sea cliffs, green valleys, centuries-old villages, and steep gorges, entering one of the most special corners of Cantabria.

It’s a perfect option for those looking to get started on historic trails, as well as for those looking to experience a more intimate, personal adventure surrounded by pure nature.
